Learning

Bryonie says: “I’m Bryonie! I hang out a lot with Bumble and I am all about ‘learning through play!’ There is so much learning to enjoy on the Play Farm – there are always new people joining in and we have so much fun together learning new skills and discovering things about nature. I love discovering new things and on the Play Farm there are lots of opportunities for all of us to do just that! Here is a sample of what goes on”;

During Term Times, children and adults at St John’s explore and discover the natural environment on the Play Farm. These include pond dipping in the Wildlife Pond area, going on insect hunts, enjoying Roman themed explorations, ‘Digging for Victory’ and so many more… Its all part of the holistic and rich environment that children benefit from at St John’s C of E Primary School.

Midweek, small groups of children work alongside our Play Farm volunteers gardening and growing fresh fruit and vegetables. Children are then able to learn to cook fresh produce in the School’s designated, bespoke kitchen which is specifically designed to enable children and adults to enjoy this vital life skill

At weekends and during School Holidays, we have occasional learning workshops including cooking, making Hanging Baskets, how to eat healthily on a budget and growing fruit and vegetables with ease.

Monthly, we are completely blessed to have the vital support of local helpers who volunteer time to help maintain the Play Farm whilst living with challenging Mental Ill Health. Without their support we would not have the facilities that we have today at Jolly John’s.
